When a website
is not enough.

Most businesses need a website. Some need software: a portal customers log into, a booking system that understands your actual availability, two systems that finally talk to each other. That is a different job, and it is the one this page is about.

You probably need this if

  • You are paying per-seat fees for software that does most of what you need, and the fees now exceed what building it once would cost.
  • Someone in your business spends hours a week copying data between two systems by hand.
  • Your booking or quoting process has rules no off-the-shelf tool understands.
  • Customers keep asking for something you cannot give them, like seeing job status themselves.
  • You have hit the ceiling of what a plugin can do and the workarounds are becoming the problem.

If none of those sound like you, you almost certainly want web design instead, and it will cost you a fraction as much. We would rather say that now than three months in.

What we build

Customer portals

Somewhere your clients log in to see job status, documents, invoices or history — instead of ringing your office to ask.

Booking systems

Real availability logic: crew capacity, travel time, job duration, blackout periods. The things generic booking tools get wrong.

Integrations

Getting your website, CRM, accounting and field software to pass data automatically instead of by copy-paste.

Internal tools

The spreadsheet that has become load-bearing, rebuilt as something that will not break when two people open it at once.

Reporting dashboards

Your numbers pulled together in one place, updated automatically, rather than assembled by hand each month.

AI automation

Lead qualification, follow-up and reception — see AI automation for that specifically.

How a build actually runs

  1. 1

    Scope, paid separately

A short paid engagement to work out what you actually need and what it costs. You own the output. If you take it elsewhere, that is genuinely fine — it is better than us guessing at a fixed price and both of us regretting it.

  2. 2

    Build in stages

Working software you can use at the end of each stage, not a six-month silence followed by a reveal. You see it early enough to change your mind while changing it is still cheap.

  3. 3

    Your repository, your code

Delivered to a repository you control, documented, using tools any competent PHP developer can pick up. No lock-in by obscurity.

  4. 4

    Support after launch

A defined arrangement for changes and fixes, agreed up front, rather than an open-ended hourly relationship neither of us has priced.

What we build with

Common questions

How is this different from web design?
Web design is a website: pages, content, forms, built to bring you enquiries. Web development is software: something that does a job — a portal customers log into, a booking engine with real availability logic, an integration between two systems that do not talk to each other. Most businesses need the first. Some outgrow it.
Do I need custom development or will a plugin do?
Usually a plugin will do, and we will tell you if so. Custom is worth it when the off-the-shelf option gets you 80% of the way and the missing 20% is the part that actually matters, or when you are paying per-seat fees that now exceed what building it once would cost.
What do you build with?
PHP 8.4 for server-side work, plain JavaScript or Next.js on the front end where it earns its place, MySQL or SQLite for data. We deliberately favour boring, well-understood tools you can hire for, over whatever is fashionable this year.
Do I own the code?
Yes, entirely, once paid. It is delivered to a repository you control, documented, and any competent PHP developer can pick it up. We do not build things only we can maintain.
How much does custom development cost?
It depends far more on scope than web design does, so we quote per project after a scoping conversation rather than publishing a band. As a rough guide, small integrations start around $3,000 and full platforms run well beyond $20,000.
